Seavoice Training has adapted in 2020 with Interactive VHF Radio training.
Time of change
2020 Has been a hard year for every business and has affected everyone on the planet in one way or another, Lock-downs and work from home ordered by the UK Government to protect the NHS, I am sure we will not forget this time in our lives and we should not forget the people who have died from this virus.
Like most RYA Training centres we have had to find new ways of working to deliver training to the coastal user, we have been delivering the RYA Interactive Online VHF Radio SRC and the RYA Online Essential Navigation and Seamanship course for a decade and a lot of people have taken that option over the Pandemic.
We looked at how other training industry had made the change to online courses and fitness classes online and decided Seavoice Training could offer a bespoke Online Marine VHF Radio refresher training sessions of 90 minutes via zoom, its not a full RYA SRC course as that would take over 10 hours of training and we believe that looking at a screen for that period of time would not healthy or beneficial.
In November 2020 we started our Marine VHF Radio refresher training sessions via Zoom for anyone who had already taken the full RYA Short range certificate or was looking to take the full SRC in the future.
Within 90 Minutes we could teach:
- Basic VHF Radio set-up
- Prowords
- Voice calling
- DSC Calls
- DSC and voice Urgency calls
- DSC and voice DISTRESS Alerts
- GMDSS – EPIRB’S & SART’S
Zoom VHF Radio events
Our first Zoom training session was well attended with students from Essex and Northern ireland and Scotland if we was running the same course in the classroom we would have never met these new students, all of them except 1 had a VHF Radio certificate with one student that had taken his before Digital selective calling pre 1999.
The interaction with all the students is great as they can all ask questions during the interactive session and we set up (Polls) questions that all students could answer to test their knowledge on all the subjects we taught.
