VHF Radio refresher training

Have you passed your Marine VHF Radio course some time ago but would like to refresh your radio procedures? Well, this short course is just for you.

We will teach you how to operate modern ICOM Marine DSC Radios.

This course is also suitable for crew members who would like to learn to operate the Marine VHF Radio without the pressure of taking the SRC exam.

We run the VHF Radio refresher courses in the evenings from 6 pm and finish at 9 pm


If it has been some time since you passed your VHF Radio certificate and you feel that you are out of practice using the VHF Radio then this is the course for you.

The course is run from our venue.

The course duration will be 3 hours and can be run over an evening.

course fees £40.00 per person.

We will teach you how to communicate with other vessels at sea via the VHF Radio, but more importantly, you will be able to contact the emergency services in a distress or urgency situation.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Set a VHF DSC Radio on Channel 16 for a radio watch
  • Make a routine voice call to another vessel
  • Conduct a radio test on VHF Channel 16
  • Make a DSC routine radio call to another vessel
  • Make a DSC urgency call and voice call (Pan Pan)
  • Make a DSC distress call and voice message (Mayday)
  • Use ICOM DSC fixed and handheld marine radios

This course/workshop will give you hands-on practice using modern ICOM Marine VHF Radio Simulators.
