Have you taken the RYA VHF Radio a few years ago and you would like to refresh your Marine VHF Radio procedures? Let the Marine VHF Radio experts at Seavoice Training guide you through the correct use of Marine band VHF Radio including digital selective calling (DSC)

This Virtual Training session is also ideal for anyone who is considering taking the Short-range certificate in the future.

We can also deliver this Interactive ( Zoom ) coaching to sailing clubs or other sea-going related groups.

FAQ: THIS IS NOT THE FULL SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE COURSE AND IT IS NOT CERTIFICATED

We will teach you how to set up a Marine VHF DSC Radio and communicate with other vessels at sea via the VHF Radio and how to contact the Coastguard using voice and digital selective calling ( DSC) but more importantly, you will be able to contact the emergency services in a distress (Mayday) or urgency (Pan Pan) situation.

 

We use ICOM Marine VHF DSC Fixed and handheld VHF Radios in all our demonstrations.

During the training, you will be quizzed on what you have learned.

This Training course is not the full RYA SRC Training course

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Set a VHF DSC Radio on Channel 16 for a radio watch
  • Make a routine voice call to another vessel
  • Conduct a radio test on VHF Channel 16
  • Make a DSC routine radio call to another vessel
  • Make a DSC urgency call and voice call (Pan Pan)
  • Make a DSC distress call and voice message (Mayday)
  • Use ICOM DSC fixed and handheld marine radios
  • correct use of Prowords

This course is conducted Online via a Zoom virtual learning meeting where you will have the chance to ask questions during the training session.

Once you have booked the Interactive training we will send you an invite to join this training meeting.

it will include the meeting ID and a meeting password.

A reminder will also be emailed to you 15 minutes before the training starts.

Just click the Join Meeting and then select Join from your browser.

Then you will be able to test your speakers/microphone and webcam before you join the meeting.

Yes we welcome any questions you may have and will hold Q&A during the training session.

No you don’t need any previous experience, just an interest in the Zoom training event.
